When Winter Warms |
We tend to think of the polar bear as an inhabitant of a land of snow and ice where temperatures are always freezing and cruel blizzards whip the landscape white bears on a blue background. This, however is an accurate picture of where the polar bear roams much of the time; even in the far north, winter warms.
Polar bears live in a area that covers thousands of square miles, and the scenery is varied. In this painting the bear may be surrounded by the roar of the ice cracking as a glacier melts away into the artic waters. His domain is vast, and he surveys it, always searching for food. Perhaps he has picked up the scent of a seal or he may be straining to see grass, berries, and other vegetation which are as fleeting as the warmer weather that now colors his world. |
